Long after the rituals fade, people remember how they felt. The quiet reassurance of a hand held tightly. A glance exchanged across the room. The ease, the nervousness, the tenderness between two people beginning something larger than themselves.

We never ask anyone to pose. We disappear into the room and let life happen — capturing what people reveal when they forget the camera exists.

"Years from now, when everything has changed —One Thousand Tales · by Dilip Kumar
these photographs will take you back.
To the laughter. To the people.
To the moments you didn't even realise
were important."

Your wedding is not just an event — it's a once-in-a-lifetime story. We document it with a non-intrusive, storytelling approach, capturing emotions exactly as they unfold.
Stories don't begin on the wedding day. Our couple shoots are about capturing your connection in its most natural form — unposed, personal, and real.
From intimate portraits to large family gatherings — we document the people and relationships that make your life what it is.
One Thousand Tales is a wedding and family photography studio based in Chennai, founded and led by Dilip Kumar. For over fourteen years, the studio has photographed weddings, couples, and families the way they actually happen — not staged, not directed, but observed.
The work falls into a few related forms. Wedding photography sits at the centre of it — full days and multi-event celebrations, photographed candidly as they unfold, with documentary wedding photography as the guiding approach rather than a checklist of poses. Family photography and couple sessions sit alongside this, built on the same idea: the most honest images come from people who've stopped performing for the camera. When couples ask us to travel — for a destination wedding outside Chennai, elsewhere in India, or further still — we go, carrying the same approach wherever the celebration is held.
Chennai shapes a lot of how this studio sees a wedding. Tamil weddings carry their own rhythm — the muhurtham at dawn, a hall filling with relatives, rituals that move quickly and rarely pause for a photographer. Working here for over a decade means knowing when to stay still and let a moment happen, rather than interrupting it to set one up.
Why photograph weddings this way? Because a wedding day is unrepeatable, and most of what makes it meaningful isn't the choreographed part — it's the look between two people mid-ceremony, a parent's hand on a shoulder, the five minutes before someone walks down the aisle when nobody is performing. A posed photograph can be recreated. A candid one can't. That difference is the reason this studio exists in its current form: less direction, more attention.
One Thousand Tales isn't a large team running packages and add-ons. It's a smaller, more personal practice — one photographer, one perspective, applied consistently across every wedding, every family, every story photographed in Chennai and beyond. That's also why the name fits: every couple's wedding is one more tale worth telling properly.
Over 14 years, I've come to believe that the most important photographs happen when nobody is looking at the camera.
I'm not interested in directing people. I'm interested in what they reveal unintentionally — the expressions that surface between the planned moments, the relationships that appear in the background of an image that was meant to capture something else.
Photography, for me, is a practice of paying attention to things most people walk past.

Candid and documentary wedding photography. We observe a wedding as it unfolds rather than directing it — minimal posing, real moments, and a final gallery sequenced the way the day actually happened.
